Faculty Recital

Celebrating Dr. Robert Mayerovitch and his 50 years at ɫƵas a full-time faculty

Better Together

Drs. Sungeun Kim and Robert Mayerovitch have long been teaching colleagues and friends, and they are once again sharing the Gamble Auditorium stage in a sparkling duo piano recital. They bring to this partnership years of experience as co-teachers of the piano students at the Baldwin Wallace Conservatory of Performing Arts.

Their unique program brought them last summer to the biennial conference of the International Society for Music Education in Helsinki, Finland, where their workshop, "Better Together: The Rewards of Shared Studio Teaching," was a resounding success. As in their teaching studios, they bring to the stage a mutual respect and celebration of the delights of making music together.

Join them as they share an afternoon of musical whimsy, romance, sparkle and nostalgia.

For your listening pleasure, they'll offer the inventive Saint-Saëns "Variations on a Theme of Beethoven," Op. 35, based on a quirky menuetto trio section.

Next comes the Second Suite by Rachmaninoff, with an array of emotionally compelling movements that conjure a march, a waltz, a romance and a tarantella.

Finally, and for an extended encore, they'll share a recurrent ɫƵfavorite: the Willim Hirtz "Wizard of Oz Fantasy," a recasting of well-known tunes from the classic film.

Event is free and open to the public.

No tickets required.
